With the choice of the title Composition, Paolo Topy evokes both the world of abstract painting and that of a domesticated, artificial nature. The floral compositions on the terraces and balconies are like an island of nature lost in a neutral space, revealing our ambivalent relationship to flowers and to the nature they are supposed to evoke. The frontality of the image, its brutal objectivity, exposes the artifice of this teeming arrangement of hybrid and industrial plants in a plastic planter, under perfusion. In spite of this umbilical cord, the whole shows the false semblance of a lonely nature in a space as indeterminate as it is disenchanting.
